History & Tradition of The Grand Hotel Berlin
A Grand Hotel in the middle of Berlin
History of The Westin Grand Berlin Hotel
The Westin Grand Berlin opened after two years of construction as Grand Hotel Berlin on 1 August 1987. The project was mainly driven by the Japanese Kajima Corporation and the Swedish company SIAB. Since 1 July 1997, the hotel is affiliated to The Westin Hotels & Resorts by franchise. The exterior design of the house is inspired by traditional elements of classic Berlin Architecture. The architects observed the tradition and the layout of the former Kaiserpassage and by the restoration of this Berlin Grand Hotel, breathed new life into a piece of Berlin history. The idea of the famous Kaiserpassage’s octagon is reflected in the octagonal hotel lobby with its 30-metre high coloured glass dome. From here, today guests access the restaurant, salons and stylish hotel rooms as they already did a century ago. The imposing staircase in the center of the atrium, underlining the glamorous atmosphere of the house and known from movies and television, is the perfect setting for special events such as fashion shows or receptions. Since its opening, this Berlin Grand Hotel has been hosting countless famous personalities from theatre, film, media and politics.
